Responsive appsResponsive website development is a way to create a single site that is optimized for large screens as well as mobile screens. It makes a lot of sense for a lot of sites and applications.
The UX for different breakpoints has to be designed, with mobile often designed before the desktop or tablet versions. Because of the small form factor and differences in the context of use, as well as ‘touch’ design patterns vs. desktop design patterns, a website, especially one with a lot of interaction and functionality, may be laid-out and flow differently for a smartphone than for its desktop counterpart. While the user should have a seamless experience interacting across any platform, the design still has to make sense in the different contexts of mobile site use vs. desktop or tablet site use. Mobile appsSometimes it makes sense to design and build a mobile app or browser experience that differs more significantly from the desktop version. Highly functional experiences may have different design patterns dependent on contextual use or native OS patterns.
